US Secretary of State Antony Blinken estimates that some 200,000 Russians have already been killed or wounded since the invasion of Ukraine began nearly a year ago.

Likewise, the head of US diplomacy believes that, since February 24, more than a million Russians have left their country “because they don’t want to be part of this war.”

In the commercial field, Blinken has estimated around a thousand companies that have stopped doing business in Russia for fear of reputational damage.

“Look what has happened, what (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has done to his own country”said Blinken after communicating the Russian estimates at the International Security Conference in Munich, where the situation in Ukraine is the predominant topic.

On the other hand, Blinken stated that he is convinced that Ukraine will win the war and that that country needs lasting peace and security for which it has the support of the allies.

“We have no doubt that Ukraine will win the war, Ukrainians are fighting for their country and their future. the russians don’t”, the state secretary said in a round table with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.

In addition, Blinken stated that the day will have to come when Putin is called to answer for what he has done. “There has to be a day when Putin is called upon to respond. Putin has led to everything he wanted to avoid. Ukraine is united, before February 24 there was a positive attitude towards Russia in Ukraine, now they hate the Russians …. there is support for joining NATO, ”he said.

The US diplomat also stressed the importance of the Russian invasion failing otherwise that could be a stimulus for other aggressors or also for other Russian aggression plans. “If not, others will believe that since the Russians got it they can try it too. And we have to discourage the Russians from trying it elsewhere,” he said.
