Through the images from a video You can see the moment in which the shooter discharges his weapon repeatedly through a window against the people who were inside the church of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hamburg.
In the video that was recorded by a person from another building, you can see how at one point the power went out inside the religious compound, however, that was not an impediment for the shooter to stop so he continued shooting from the street towards the interior of the church.
The death toll in last night’s shooting at the Jehovah’s Witness church is seven people.
According to the weekly “Der Spiegel”he attacker who also died, was a member of that religious community.
The informative television channel NTV cites police sources to establish the number of victims at eight, including the attacker, a man between 30 and 40 years old, with no known history as an extremist and who opened fire with a pistol, according to “Der Spiegel”.
The attack occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. GMT, when the assailant entered the three-story building where the community’s temple is located and fired at the attendees, who were participating in a religious service at the time.
There is an indeterminate number of injured, not yet specified, while it is expected that at 11:00 GMT the authorities, police and Hamburg public prosecutor’s office to give more information.
The police spokesman holger vehren already advanced last night in statements to NTV which were based on the fact that the aggressor is one of the dead people.
An eyewitness, who captured some images from his home with his mobile phone, explained to that channel that he heard at least 25 shots after the man entered the building and, a few minutes later, one more shot.
“In the current state of the situation we assume that the author was one. Police measures in the area will be lifted gradually. Investigations continue,” the police reported on Twitter on Friday.
The police have also indicated where photos and videos of what happened “on the relevant events” related to the event can be uploaded to help in the investigation.
The security forces received reports of a shooting after 9:00 p.m. local time (20:00 GMT) and a police patrol that was in the vicinity of the religious temple, in the neighborhood of Gross Borstelsouth of the city’s airport, went to the scene.
Initially it was reported that one or more of the perpetrators could have fled, but this possibility was later ruled out.
Several neighbors said they heard what they identified as shots and that these happened on at least four occasions. They said that they immediately saw how the police officers entered the premises.
Around midnight, the police asked the population through social networks to refrain from disseminating “discussions about the perpetrators or the event” and reported that there is still no “certain information” about the reason for the shooting.
Police forces cordoned off the area near the site and special forces were sent there, according to local media, which indicated that the deployment affected the neighborhoods of Groß Borstel, Alsterdorf and Eppendorf.
At around midnight a helicopter monitoring that part of the city could be seen flying over the nearby area.
The three-story building is located on Deelböge street and local media reported that members of Jehovah’s Witnesses meet twice a week at the Kingdom Hall.
The mayor of Hamburg, peter schentscherdescribed what happened in the city as “horrifying” and stated that “the security forces are working hard to persecute the perpetrators and clarify what happened.”
