The Weeknd became the first artist in history to surpass 100 million monthly listeners on the Spotify digital platform.
Among all the awards and recognitions he already has, The Weeknd added a very important one this week, as he became the first artist in history to exceed 100 million monthly listeners on the Spotify digital platform.
“It’s official: on February 27, The Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners,” the streaming service announced on Monday through its official social networks.
At the time of publication, Drake had some 68.6 million monthly listeners, Taylor Swift stood out with 80.3 million and Miley Cyrus, with her hit “Flowers”, had just 82.5 million.
This latest achievement for The Weeknd comes just days after he dropped his new remix of “Die for You,” featuring Ariana Grande. The duo have previously collaborated on tracks like “Love Me Harder,” “Off the Table” and the “Save Your Lágrimas” remix.
Also over the weekend, The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium, the Canadian singer’s new concert special filmed during last year’s After Hours ‘Til Dawn Tour’, premiered on HBO Max.
Earlier this month, the musician confirmed that this documentary would close his album cycle. Meanwhile, The Weeknd is gearing up for the premiere of the upcoming HBO Max drama series The Idol, which he created with Sam Levinson (Euphoria) and Reza Fahim, which will hit the platform sometime this year.
