Finland today became the thirty-first full member of NATO After completing the application process requested as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukrainewhich implies that the country is covered by article 5 of collective defense of the Alliance.

With this accession, the European defense and deterrence system was as follows:

France: Provides the Alliance with a naval force with a continuous presence in the Atlantic, Baltic, Mediterranean and northern seas. Collaborates with NATO Standing Maritime Groups (SNMG1 and 2) as well as NATO Mine Countermeasure Groups (SNMCMG1 and 2) in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania , the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Italy: Works to improve regional understanding and anticipation of threats emanating from the south, its location is centered on the Allied Joint Forces Command in Naples. Its contributors are: 22 Allies who make Voluntary National Contributions and reassigned personnel from JFC Napoli. It is also a territory where key NATO and allied exercises take place.
Greece, Croatia, Albania, North Macedonia, Slovenia and Montenegro: Like Italy, they work to improve regional understanding and anticipation of threats emanating from the south and have NATO sea and air defense systems specifically in the Atlantic, Baltic, Mediterranean and northern seas.
Bulgaria: Has Air Surveillance to protect the airspace on the eastern flank of the Alliance. NATO Response Force. Work with a Very High Readiness Joint Task Force ready to deploy in the short term in case of crisis management or collective defense.
Türkiye: WACS patrols with the mission of providing security in the skies of Eastern Europe before the detection of aerial threats.
Romania: It has air defense to strengthen NATO defenses. It also has Air Surveillance to protect the airspace of the eastern flank of the Alliance, as well as forward presence forces, Eight multinational battle groups (BG) to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defense.
Hungary: It has NATO Force Integration Units to facilitate the rapid deployment of NATO forces. It also has Forward Presence Forces and Multinational Headquarters with 8 Multinational Battlegroups (BGs) to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defense.
Slovakia: Has air defense to strengthen NATO defenses and Very High Readiness Joint Task Response Forces ready to deploy at short notice in case of crisis management or collective defense.
Czech Republic: It has AWACS patrols to patrol the skies of Eastern Europe in the morning for the detection of aerial threats.
Poland: Has Joint Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance to support decision makers with timely information. In addition to the NATO Response Force, air defense and police, AWACS Patrols and Alliance Force Integration Units,
Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Denmark: They have Amphibious Task Forces with the mission of strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense at sea and on land. Also carrier strike groups for NATO sea defense and in the air. As well as Permanent Naval Forces / VJTF (Maritime) to provide the Alliance with a naval force of continuous presence in the Atlantic Ocean, Baltic, Mediterranean and northern seas.
Norway: Air surveillance to protect the space on the eastern flank of the Alliance.
Iceland: It has a preparation team for peacetime in Iceland whose mission is to protect the airspace of Iceland.
Latvia: It has NATO Force Integration units to facilitate the rapid deployment of its forces and air defense.
Lithuania and Estonia: They have air surveillance, NATO Response Forces and Alliance Force Integration Units.
