Thousands of people in Europe took to the streets to support Ukraine on the anniversary of the war

Thousands of people have taken to the streets this Friday afternoon in different European capitals, such as in Paris, Brussels or Berlin, to support Ukraine on the anniversary of the war in demonstrations that will extend throughout the weekend.

The largest rallies have taken place in the German capital, Berlin, where more than 10,000 people have gathered in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Tributes have also been registered in other parts of Germany, such as in Munster or Hamburg.

In the French capital, Paris, thousands of people have come to the Republic Square with Ukrainian flags and anti-war banners at a meeting called by a Ukrainian resistance platform.

There have also been tributes in Brussels in front of the European Parliament in an act organized by the Ukrainian embassy before the EU on the Solidarnosc esplanade, where a huge flag of the Eastern country has been displayed in solidarity with the consequences of the war.

In addition, there are two marches for peace called for Saturday in the Italian capital, Romewhile other capitals, such as in RigaThousands of people have gathered with Ukrainian flags in the square of the Freedom Monument.

More than 7,000 people gathered today in the central Rustaveli square in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgiain front of Parliament, to participate in a solidarity rally with Ukraine.

To the rally, called under the slogan “Georgia, glory to the heroes”, Demonstrators came with Georgian, Ukrainian, US and EU flags, singing Ukrainian songs and chanting “Long live Ukraine and Georgia” and “Glory to the heroes.”

In a show of solidarity with Ukraine, the Georgian presidential palace and the Tbilisi TV tower were colored blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The demonstration was also attended by Ukrainian refugees in Georgia.

Ukraine commemorates this Friday the first anniversary of the beginning of the Russian invasion, at the end of a week in which it has received visits from heads of state such as the American Joe Bidenthe Italian premier Giorgia Meloni and the President of the Spanish Government Pedro Sanchez.

They all traveled to the Ukrainian capital to reaffirm the Western commitment to defending against the Russian invasion, which they underlined with the announcement of new aid, such as the shipment of up to 10 Leopard 2 type tanks from Spain.

In numerous official buildings throughout the continent, Ukrainian flags fly this Friday, to which citizen initiatives were added.

For her part, the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, and the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, will attend today in the Estonian capital of Tallinn the events to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Baltic republic.

There it is expected that they will also pronounce on the situation in Ukraine in a joint press conference with the Estonian president and prime minister.
