More than 1,200 patients from nine hospitals in Ft Myers and surrounding areas were evacuated, because due to the lack of electricity, the facilities were no longer in operating condition. That situation will deteriorate, Governor Ron DeSantis warned, because Lee and Charlotte counties have been “disconnected from the utility grid” and “will need much more than reinstall a pole and a power line.”

Until now, the city remains impassable, while municipal personnel try to clear the roads of debris and the flooding does not subside. “We have several businesses damaged by the water, by the flood,” Mayor Kevin Anderson told CNN. “The road to recovery will be long.”
