After closing the purchase Twitter for an approximate amount of 44 billion dollars, Elon Musk not only did it make the decision to change the structure of the company by laying off the top managers, but it also decided to make changes to the services it offers to users.

With this measure, the now CEO of the social network established that, together with the subscription of users to Twitter Bluethe paid version of the social networka verification badge would be offered as part of the service and not as an additional item that anyone who meets the minimum requirements can earn.

However, with this measure came other problems, since there was no greater filter than paying 8 dollars to obtain a verification badge, anyone could have one to do what they want, including the possibility of impersonating the user’s own account. Elon Musk, something that did happen and that generated a response from the billionaire.

As a result of this, two related measures arose: The first is to permanently suspend verified accounts that are parody and do not indicate that they are. The second answers the question how to know if a Twitter profile is verified because it is real and not because a parody account has paid 8 dollars for the blue badge?

The response to this was the deployment of a new form of verification through an additional gray badge that includes the word “Official” aside and not marketed unlike its blue pair.

This bonus symbol will only be offered to government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers, and some public figures. This is the reason, for example, why not even Elon MuskCEO of Twitteryou have this additional gray badge enabled that the accounts of Twitter and the White House.

Twitter’s early-stage product executive, Esther Crawfordhe indicated through his account in the social network that this new complementary form of verification will not be granted to all the people who had activated the regular verification with the badge blue.

Another difference between the two, apart from monetization, is that the Twitter Blue badge does not have a mechanism for check of identity, which is why anyone can buy it paying only 8 dollars. However, the gray verification badge will prompt verification of identity
