After the resignation of Jack Dorsey and the rise of Parag Agrawal as the new CEO of the company, the social network has not stood still, as has decided to extend its privacy policy to prohibit users from sharing images or videos of private persons without their consent.

The team in charge of security on Twitter argued through a statement that sharing private content of people “can have a disproportionate effect on women, activists, dissidents and members of minority communities”, should this arise, the company You will be able to delete the media and take steps such as reducing the visibility of tweets in responses and search results, as well as warning the person to delete specific content that is violating policies or ultimately suspending the person’s account that incurs in this type of practice.

It should be noted that not any private content enters the rule, since the company made it clear that the contents of public persons will be excluded or also if a photo or video of a private person “is shared in the public interest or adds value to public discourse”, that is, if this content has the character of generating newsworthy, for this, the company will analyze whether the image is published in other media such as television or newspapers.

Although this new rule does not cover public figures in their entirety, the social network made it clear that all types of content that tries to harm, harass, intimidate or generate fear will be prohibited in order to silence them, in the same way, as It had already been applied so far, abusive content and non-consensual nudity will continue to be restricted.

To this security policy was added the express prohibition of sharing personal information about other people such as their telephone number, address, financial information or identification, likewise, it is prohibited to extort or threaten someone with publishing said personal information.

Through a trill, the company also argued that it takes these measures because “people should have the option to finish which photo is publicly shared or not.”

Faced with this situation, the company will be in charge of reviewing the reports generated by users, since the same people will be in charge of reporting this type of violation of the platform’s policies.
