Two Israeli soldiers wounded in shooting attack in West Bank

Two Israeli soldiers were injured this Saturday in an attack with shots committed from a vehicle in the Palestinian city of Huwarain the northern West Bank, confirmed the Israeli army.

“One soldier was seriously injured and another slightly injured. The soldiers were transferred to a hospital and their families have been notified, ”a military spokesman indicated in the last part of it.

The two Israeli soldiers, in a conscious state, were taken by military doctors to the Beilinson Hospital in the Israeli city of Petah Tikvah.

The alleged attacker, who authorities assume was Palestinianfled the scene by car after opening fire at one of the many military posts in Huwara, a Palestinian town turned focus of clashes between Palestinians and Israelis who live in the area, who have to cross the city road to reach the settlements.

“The manhunt for the suspect is ongoing. Israeli security forces are searching the area and blocking roads,” the Israeli army said earlier in a statement.

This is the third shooting attack this month in Huwara.

The last Sunday, an Israeli was shot and seriously wounded in a similar attack while driving through Huwara, three weeks after he two Israeli brothers were killed shot in another shooting attack while driving through that city.

In the aftermath of the attack on the two brothers, on February 26, the Israelis staged a riot in the city, burning houses and cars and in which a Palestinian was shot dead in unclear circumstances.

The area lives one of the most violent years in decadesas well as an increase in attacks by both Palestinians and Jews living in the West Bank.

The number of Palestinian deaths in violent incidents with Israel in the West Bank so far this year has risen to 87 -an average of more than one per day and the highest figure for that period since 2000-; while on the Israeli side they have died fifteen people victims of Palestinian attacks.

The region began the celebrations of the holy month of ramadan on high alert, particularly in Jerusalemwith a strong security device as it is a time in which tension traditionally rises.

The first prayer of Ramadan, the obligatory month of fasting for practicing Muslims, took place in a high-voltage but no violent incidentsaccording to local authorities.

Previouslythe enclosure has been the scene of clashes between israelis and palestinians especially during Ramadan, which is why more than 2,000 police officers were deployed to attend the event.

“Of course we have fear to an escalation, but we hope Ramadan is peacefulwithout escalations, and that Muslims can enter Al-Aqsa to pray, without problems between Jews and Arabs”, mentions Ebtissam Barrak, a Palestinian Muslim faithful, for AFP.

And although there were no violent confrontations, they were reported symbolic actions such as the appearance of a Hamas giant billboarda Palestinian terrorist organization self-declared as a jihadist, in one of the porticoes of the esplanade. Later, the Israeli police released a video in which the poster and flags are removed.
