Two pilots of the Military Aeronautics Italian died after their planes collided in flight during some maneuvers and their remains fell in the inhabited center of Guidoniain the province of Rome.

The victims of the serious accident were Lieutenant Colonel Giuseppe Cipriano48 years old, and the commander Marco Meneghello, 46 years old. Both were experienced instructor pilots.

According to a witness who witnessed the accident in statements to the website RomeTodaywere four propeller planes that were doing maneuvers and one lost its rear wing and began to spin on itself until it crashed, caught fire and must have hit the other one that was nearby.

The training mission was previously planned in the area, although it remains to be clarified why the planes were over the city. The other two pilots landed safely and will be questioned in the next few hours.

Mayor Guidonia, Mauro Lombardopraised the “heroism” of the pilot who, while plummeting, managed to avoid the most devastating impact against the building “in a street that was also narrow, avoiding the houses”. Lombardo added that “the municipality is beginning the celebrations of the centenary of the Military Aeronauticsunfortunately saddened by this terrible tragedy.

“The news of the death of the two Aeronautics pilots in the Guidonia plane crash, near Rome, fills us with sadness. On behalf of the Government, I express my deepest condolences and my closeness to the families, colleagues from the 60th company and the entire corps of the Air Force. We pray for them,” said the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
