Ukraine announced the recovery of 20 square kilometers of territories seized by Russia near Bakhmut

Ukraine on Tuesday claimed the reconquest of 20 km2 of territories around Bakhmut, but acknowledged that Russian troops continue to advance in that eastern city where the longest and bloodiest battle of this war is being fought.

“In the last days, our troops liberated about 20 km2 to the north and south of the Bakhmut periphery. At the same time, the enemy is advancing to a certain extent inside Bakhmut itself and is totally destroying the city with its artillery,” Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister said. Ganna Malyarin a statement posted on social media.

According to Malyar, the Russians have deployed paratroop troops to reinforce their forces in Bakhmut.

The deputy minister insisted that “the heavy fighting continues with mixed results”, and praised the work of the Ukrainian military defending the part of this eastern Ukrainian city that remains under Kiev control.

Malyar also assured that Russia still has an advantage over Ukraine in Bakhmut in terms of troops and weapons.

Ukrainian military analysts have suggested the possibility that Ukraine may eventually cede control of the Bakhmut municipality to Russia while advancing on the flanks to expose Russian troops to enemy fire inside the city.

Missiles over kyiv

Meanwhile, Ukraine affirmed this Tuesday that he demolished six Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missiles in a new night attack with missiles and drones against kyiv.

“Another incredible success from the Ukrainian Air Force! Last night, our sky defenders shot down SIX Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and 12 other missiles,” Defense Minister, said on Twitter. Oleksiy Reznikov.

Ukraine claimed a week ago that it shot down a Kinzhal hypersonic missile for the first time using US-supplied systems.

Kinzhal (“dagger” in Russian) missiles are more difficult to intercept than other types of missiles.

The Russian president himself Vladimir Putinpresented this missile in 2018 and described it as an “ideal weapon” due to its difficulty to be intercepted.

kyiv received its first Patriots in mid-April, one of the most advanced air defense systems in USAwhich he used to shoot down the first Kinzhal missile.

It was not specified which system had been used to shoot down the Kinzhal missiles in tonight’s attacks.

Some debris fell in several neighborhoods of kyiv, including in the zoo of the Ukrainian capital, injuring three people, according to the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko.

kyiv’s military administration said Tuesday’s attack, the eighth this month in the capital, included drones, cruise missiles and probably ballistic missiles launched “simultaneously from different directions”.
