The ukrainian prime minister, Denis Shmigalguaranteed this Tuesday that the country has accumulated enough gas and coal to face winter. The official’s announcement came in the run-up to the particularly cold months in the country and in the midst of a wave of attacks by Russia that keep multiple cities in the country without electricity and access to water.

In this sense, according to the media ukrinformShmigal assured that so far Ukraine has managed to accumulate about 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas -mostly of national origin-, and 1.5 million tons of coal.

“The injection of gas in our storages also continues. A relatively mild autumn and the saving of energy resources allow us to pump more gas than we withdraw from gas storages”, the prime minister continued.

In this context, Shmigal was convinced that he would be able to spend the winter without major inconveniences in terms of these resources, although he did show concerned for the supply energetic which, these days, is the “key challenge” for the country after the Russian bombing.

The electrical network, very weak

The Kremlin’s strategy of bombing strategic infrastructure and residential buildings has intensified in recent weeks. Only in octoberwith attacks across the country, Russia managed to destroy 51 power plants -which are added to the 34 that had already been attacked in the seven months of war-.

Shmigal acknowledged that the situation is more complicated in the city and region of kyiv, as well as in Kharkov, which were the main targets.

As a result of this, both kyiv and other cities in the interior have been forced to implement scheduled outagess to ensure that all users can receive a minimum of energy.

“The country’s power grid is still unable to resume full operation after the Russian terror attacks. In some regions, we have to introduce blackouts to avoid overloading high-voltage infrastructure,” the local power company said on Monday. Ukrenergo.

The prime minister took the opportunity to thank all citizens who have adjusted their energy consumption, which helps “balance the system” and reduces the chances of blackouts.

Added to this concern was the Water, which would not be guaranteed by the bombing either. That is why, in recent days, the Government announced that it is preparing some thousand shelters for citizens, although he warned that they should prepare for the worst since they will not be enough to attend to the three million inhabitants from the country.

“We are doing everything we can to prevent it. But let’s be frank, our enemies are doing everything possible so that the city is left without heat, without electricity, without a water supply, in general, so that we all die. And the future of the country and that of each one of us depends on how prepared we are for different situations”, announced this week the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitaly Klitschko.
