Ukraine continues defense in Bakhmut and resists Russian attacks

He Ukrainian General Staff explained in his part today that the Russian forces continue to launch attacks to “completely” take the city of Bakhmutwhere Ukrainian troops repelled at least twenty assault attempts during the day on Wednesday.

“The enemy continues to focus its main efforts in its offensive in the directions of Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinska”, the official note says in reference to these four areas of the eastern front, which adds that “the epicenter of the combat continues to be in Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka”.

In the four aforementioned areas, Ukrainian forces repelled dozens of Russian attacks yesterday, says the report, which also speaks of enemy bombardments against numerous towns near these cities.

The Ukrainian military report also says that the Russian army “is increasing the fortification of its defensive borders and its positions” in the territories it controls in Zaporizhzhia and Khersonin southern Ukraine, presumably in anticipation of a possible Ukrainian counteroffensive.

For his part, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Border Guard said Wednesday that Russia has taken steps to transfer to eastern Ukraine the half of the 4,000 soldiers it had in Belaruswith the aim of “reinforcing their troops” who are fighting at the front.

The transfer comes after the 2,000 soldiers who will be sent to the front completed their training on Belarusian soil, said Andrii Demechenko, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Border Guard.
