The Ukrainian air defenses demolished the early hours of this Thursday the 36 Shahed kamikaze drones of Iranian manufacture launched by the Russian army from the north and south of the country -the attack number 12 so far in May- the Ukrainian Air Force reported in a statement.
“Russia attacked kyiv again by air”, wrote on Telegram the head of the kyiv military administration, Sergi Popko.
“According to preliminary information, Shahed-type drones were used in this massive attack”, he added. “The enemy continues to use wave attack tactics, with intervals between groups of attack drones.”
According to the military part, the intercepted artifacts were “presumably” directed against “critical infrastructures and military installations located in the western regions” of Ukraine.
For his part, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenskycelebrated the effectiveness of his army’s anti-aircraft defenses: “difficult night. The enemy continues the terror against the Ukraine and used 36 ‘shaheds’. None of them reached their goal”, Zelensky wrote on his Telegram account. “Thanks to our anti-aircraft defenses for this 100% result”.
To destroy these drones with which Russia attacks the Ukrainian territory almost every night, the Ukrainian army used missiles and aircraftand also resorted to mobile brigades that fire on the unmanned aircraft with lighter weapons.

The previous airstrike on kyiv happened four days agosaid Popko, who has counted 12 offensives on the capital so far in May.
Throughout the night air alerts were activated in other cities, such as Kharkiv (east) and Chernivsti (west), authorities said.

Sevastopol, and the Crimean peninsula in general, is a prominent target for Ukrainian forces, which use drones and missiles to hit Russian targets.
The incident comes after Moscow deployed planes and artillery against an armed group, in the most serious attack on its territory since the invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
On Wednesday, the governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkovsaid the territory was targeted overnight by numerous drone strikes.
