The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenskyrecognized that The war against the Russians has escalated in the strategic town of Bakhmutin the east of the country, where people fight street by street, for which the Government has decided send more troops.
In his usual message to the Ukrainians posted on his official page, Zelensky said that “the most difficult situation remains that of Bakhmut and that the battles in that city are very important for the defense of the city” and the rest of the region.
The Ukrainian president added to document the cruelty of the fighting that, since last Thursday, more than 800 Russian troopsalthough he did not specify the number of casualties that have occurred among the Ukrainian forces.
“Russia does not take people into account at all and constantly sends them to assault our positions. The intensity of the fighting is only increasing,” he reiterated.
“I thank all the Ukrainian warriors who, despite this crazy pressure from the occupier, are defending our positions and destroying the Russian army! I appreciate each and everyone who supports our warriors!” he added.
Zelensky also spoke of the situation in other regions of the country, such as Khersonin the southeast and partly occupied by Russia, which unilaterally annexed it last September along with neighboring Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk and Lugansk (the latter two members of Donbas).
“Of course, we also consider (the situation) in other areas in Donbas (…), and around Kherson and its region. yesterday there was more than 30 Russian bombardments in the zone. They were bombing only streets, only people. (…) We have lost four people (in those attacks). We will do everything possible to suppress the (Russian) terrorists.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister, Hanna Malyarconfirmed this Wednesday that they have sent reinforcements to the Ukrainian army which for several months has been holding the defense of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.
“The Bakhmut front is still the most active zone of the war”, he insisted and, therefore, “during a recent trip to the city, the commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyidecided to move additional units there.”
In statements made in the news broadcast by Ukrainian television and broadcast by local agencies, Malyar explained that “the situation in Bakhmut is complicated and tense”.
“The Russian occupation forces concentrated their main efforts there. They want to try to completely capture the Donetsk region” and, in particular, Bakhmut, a strategic point to create a corridor in the east to move troops and ammunition.
At the same time, the deputy minister stressed that “the decision to keep Bakhmut (under Ukrainian control) is military, not political. The decisions are made by the military, who are not guided by political motives, ”he repeated.
For several months, Russian troops and mercenaries from the private military company “Wagner” -close to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin-, they have been assaulting Bakhmut continuously and currently there is street by street fighting to control the area.
