Zeus, an american great dane two years, has taken the attention of the world by winning the Guinness record due to its large size. And it is that, although there have been several cartoons over time such as Clifford or large-scale sculptures like the balloon dog of the artist Jeff Koons, only this dog has managed to position itself as the tallest living (male) dog of the world.
At his young age, Zeus from Bedford, Texas has stood out not only for his striking gray and brown color and his large ears, but also for reach a height of 1 meter 118 centimeters (3 feet 5.18 inches).
Brittany Davis, owner of Zeus counted for Guinness World Records that the idea of registering his pet came at a family gathering, when his loved ones brought up the idea that he might be the only dog in the world that could get to that size.
“We didn’t think that was even a possibility, but once we measured it, we realized that it probably was.”said the young woman.
This has been whirlwind and unexpected. We never thought we would own the largest living dog. We get a lot of comments like, “Wow, that’s the tallest dog I’ve ever seen,” so it’s great to now be able to say, “Yeah, that’s definitely the tallest dog I’ve ever seen.”
But like all living beings of this large size, Zeus is used to certain peculiarities that could perhaps surprise even the most skeptical.
For example, instead of having a bowl of water, This Great Dane drinks from the sink and jumps over fences so he can meet the neighbors. Likewise, he likes to steal the baby’s pacifiers from the house and any food that is on the counters, because reaching them is not a problem for him.
Something that many might wonder is how much does a dog of that size eat and, according to Brittany, spending on dog food is quite a lot, since Zeus tastes six cups of large dog food in the morning and another six at night. Sometimes he is also rewarded with a treat, ice cubes and even a fried egg.
Zeus is the son of a gray and white blackbird dog and a brindle mother. Also, at birth he was the largest pup of the litter of five.
“He’s been a big dog since we got him, even for a puppy. It had huge legs.”Brittany said.
How this dog came to the woman’s family, she said that she had always wanted to have a Great Dane, so her brother Garrett decided to fulfill her dream and gave her Zeus when he was so only eight weeks old.
But, despite its large size, this specimen is not exempt from fear and his owner confessed that he hates pigs and storms.
“Zeus would be absolutely terrified of a pig. He’s afraid of the rain, so pigs are out of the question“, he pointed.
It should be noted that before Zeus broke this record, another gray Great Dane dog – which coincidentally had the same name – had the title of tallest dog in history (male), as it measured 1 meter 11 cm (44 inches).
Sadly, this dog who lived in Otsego, Michigan, passed away in 2014, when he was 5 years old.
